While awaiting the duel between Alejandro Valverde or Cadel Evans in the race of truth, it was Stefan Schumacher who leapt out of the pack with an incredible time trial performance.

The man of the hour during Stage 4 was German Stefan Schumacher. He produced the ride of his life to win to win the stage and take over the yellow jersey. He has a 12-second cushion on both Kim Kirchen and David Millar.
